Our Christmas.

So if anyone ever wonders where I get my creativity from this is my mom's planter...brilliant. Her and Molly did that.
Me and my sister and brother for our annual in front of the tree pic.
My adorable cousin Larry from Boston.
This shot of Molly with her new Ariel toothbrush is a little fuzzy but kind of works because she was so excited about the silly little thing she couldn't stop running around. For some reason she thought the toothbrush was a scrub brush because she started scrubbing her face, back, and butt with it too. It was hilarious.

Come visit me at a new time....

NEW HOURS STARTING ON JANUARY 2! Starting Wednesday January 3rd Persimmons will be open 12-7!!! After being closed December 31 and January 1. Molly will be here with me at the store almost full time so the new hours will allow us to hang out and play in the mornings and allow all those employed people out there to come in after work too! This may not be permanent but we will just have to see. I just figure if you can come in at 10 you can probably wait til noon but if you work until 5 you hardly ever get to come to this fine store. So yeah! Come visit us some night after work for instant stress relief.

Merry Christmas Everyone.

Just wanted to thank everyone who keeps up with me and our family through this blog for any part you have had in our lives. I am a truly blessed person and Christmas is always a time to remember that and thank everyone who is responsible for me living my dream.
Christmas is also a time to remember old traditions and remember those who are no longer here. One of those fantastic people that I will never forget is my Grandpa Luchsinger. I recently found this picture of him that I have been looking for for about 2 years now. It was stuck in the pages of an old book that thankfully I paged through before getting rid of it. My Grandpa was a jokester. Even though most of my life he was in a wheelchair due to MS he was always goofy and the life of the party. I love him and miss him a lot. Both him and Grandma were far too young to die and I would give almost anything for them to still be here to meet Molly and know that their support of me when I was young lead me to live the life most only dream of living. We went to their house often and spent Saturday nights eating braunshweiger and crackers and watching Lawrence Welk. Grandma always had crayons and paper on the kitchen table and would teach us to draw the most beautiful portraits forming my early love of art while we ate her famous tomato soup spaghetti. Oh I miss them.

We are on the cover!!!!

Of the Herald Times Reporter (our local paper) today! Check it out here.

It's an article about being "green" for the holidays! I am so happy they used a picture with my Molly in it. She thought she was pretty cool when she saw that!

Coming soon....

Kits. I am in the process of developing a few kits to make fun little recycled art projects. One of them is these fun little angels. I am also working on ATC kits, Button pin kits, Journal kits, and Applique kits. I am hoping to incorporate these kits with a new concept in the store of an open studio kind of feel. I love sharing all of my crazy ideas with people and this will be a perfect way to do that!
I am also hoping to expand and work with my hours a little. Possibly changing my hours to 11 or 12 -7 or maybe even 8? Those of you who are in the area let me know what you think?
If my hours are a little different starting January just know I am not closing or anything just trying to figure some things out.

My talented child.

This is Glenn
This is me

I don't really think it is right for a 2 year old to be this darn good. We were laughing for an hour when she whipped out these portraits of us last night.

A visit with the big man.

Santa came to the store Saturday. It was a lot of fun. Molly was pretty amazed mostly because Santa talked. He stayed for an hour and only a few families came so most of the time was devoted to Molly. He read her The Night Before Christmas and showed her a few of his favorite puppets and even left her a book as an early Christmas gift. It was a good thing. I think I will invite him to come 2 hours next year and make it a big Christmas celebration!
All that Santa got us in the mood for decorating so we went to Stumpjack for some coffee today and then to get our tree. We opted for the Charlie Brown tree area and found this beauty for only $18. I was shocked to see some of the trees were going for $70! Ouch. Anyhow the lights are on now and after I finish this post I will decorate the tree with my vintage striped ornaments. I love the old shiny brites but have limited my collection to only ones with stripes on them. I love my clear ones that came from war times when metal was in short supply. They came with paper tops but all of mine have been replaced with the typical metal tops. So off I go! I will post the finished tree tomorrow!

So much to talk about so little time.

First of all I should be getting ready for Santa tomorrow, paying bills, cleaning my studio or doing boring paperworky type stuff but no I choose to blog instead. A nice customer Kathy thought of me when cleaning out her parents house and brought me a huge load of fun stuff. Old books and patterns, puzzles, trucks, toys of all sorts, clothing, and fun spice tins. She thought of me. I feel so special. It was fun to look through boxes of treasures.(see below) I found a lot of good stuff I will be able to put to good use! Perhaps things to make more little silly guys like Tom pictured above. I named him after this man Tom Drill who is by far one of the kindest most giving people I have ever known and ever will. He is the King of all bell ringers here in town...no matter the weather you will find him on the corner of 8th and Jay ringing the giving bell and wishing everyone a Merry Christmas! Oh and no matter how many years ago you met him he knows your name. He is amazing and a true asset to this community. Anyhow I love him and I love this little guy so I named him Tom...thanks Heather for the suggestion. I have really been a glitteraholic lately. Putting it on everything and having lots of fun making these very victorian feeling ornaments. Oh so so so so so much fun. So if you see a trail of glitter follow it and you will find me.

Ok seriously you need to...

Go to Tina's blog right now and check out her illustration of yesterdays accident prone day. She is seriously one of the funniest people I know! I love it Tina. Glad you decided to illustrate that and not my messy car.

Accident Prone Day.

I made a whole mess of $15 pendant necklaces strung on waxed linen and using a button for a clasp yesterday. I was going to list this one on etsy but couldn't really figure out a good way to photograph it so it will just be in the store. Look at the bosom on that angel! It is an old Cracker Jack charm. I paired it with turquoise and a few vintage millinery flowers. It's cute. And only 15 bucks!

I had one of those mornings this morning that gave me a lot of signs I should maybe stay home. When I was in the shower washing my face I rammed my pinkie up my nostril....OWCH. Then while putting on my mascara I poked my eye and then got mascara all over my face. Luckily so far nothing else to bad has happened since then but man that sucked. I haven't really gotten much accomplished today mostly because I am afraid I will stab myself or burn myself with solder. Oh well tomorrow is another day!

A good load of loot.

I wasn't going to but I stopped at my local neighborhood St Vinnie's this morning before work and am sooooo glad I did. I found the best 1950's kids books! One of them got me really excited because it is one of the old linen books. My new internet friend who goes by Sillyboodilly on etsy recently had an article in the Holiday Somerset publication . She made some flowers out of the old linen page books and I may have to try them. You also might remember me posting a while ago about my wonderful pincushion that I just adore. Chloe still makes me smile.
Anywho besides the wonderful kids books I got a few shorthand books, a great set of pastel dishes, an old bingo game, a jar of buttons (come on Kim enough buttons already) a cribbage board, and a very cool japan vase. I love stuff.

Welcome? Winter

It is super crappy outside right now. It has been pretty much switching between snow and sleet with 30 mile an hour wind. Pleasant. Made for a pretty slow day at the shop. I did however host my first art party. I had 6 teenage girls and they created beautiful beaded jewelry. It was a good time. I learned a few things for the next time I host a party but overall it was a good experience. After I closed I had to brave the elements and go to the grocery store. That was fun. People really do forget how to drive in snow over the warm weather months. If there is 2 feet of snow on the road please travel under the speed limit and stay off my bumper. Is that really too much to ask? But I got home in one piece and promptly put on my jammie's. I have a feeling I will be in these same jammie's until Monday morning.
