A bluebird and a hangover.

Life is so hectic right now. I know I am totally neglecting my blog but with all this stuff something has got to get put aside. I did find some time to make a few things the other day one of which is this lovely little birdie mixed media painting....

It was a lot of fun. Lots of layers on this one. I started with a canvas painted turquoise. Then I added a layer of gel medium and transferred some old sheet music to the canvas. I added the yellow using alcohol inks and then created a bird out of sheet music too. I painted the bird and then used distressing ink around it to make it pop a little. I used markers to add the wording and little swirls and called it done.

On another note I had to give up caffeine this week. I was having major heart palpitations and a little more anxiety than normal. It is funny because it has only been a few days and already those things have gone away. Stupidly though today I stopped at Subway to get a sandwich for lunch and decided to get a caffeine free diet coke. I haven't drank soda for about 8 months now and I feel like a big pile of poop. Taught me a lesson I guess. So I will just go now and suffer with my diet coke hangover. Man getting old sucks.

Krazy Daze!!!

It's coming soon to beautiful downtown Manitowoc. If you have never experienced Krazy Daze it is worth the trip! There are wicked sales, fun free entertainment and great food. This years theme is outta this world savings and I don't think the lovely and very super duper talented Tina could have made a better poster. She Rocks! Here at Persimmons we will be hosting a lovely little backyard vendor market and vintage stuff rummage sale. In the store my jewelry will be 30% off and vintage books and magazines will be a measly 50 cents. So mark your calendars and fly into Manitowoc on July 12th for a wacky good time.

Artta This World.

Are you an artist or fun and funky crafter living in Wisconsin? If you are you should apply to be in this totally different fun new show. It is going to be on Saturday September 6th in conjunction with the totally wacky tacky Sputnikfest. We are closing down North 8th Street in Manitowoc and you will set up just one short block away from the impact site (A hunk o Sputnik landed in the street in 1962). The booth fee is just $50 and the beautiful thing about this show is that we encourage artisans who do a variety of things to join. I have always had a problem with shows because I do so many different types of things and cannot categorize myself into one medium. We are also going to have fun art wars all day to keep in the Sputnikfest mode and will have prizes for best in show in both fine art and funky art categories. It is going to be a great show and Sputnikfest has already gotten some national attention so it should also be a very well attended show!
So if you haven't applied yet go to www.sputnikfest.com and download the form. The show is juried and the deadline to get your application is July 15...which isn't so far away so get that application in today!!

Need a photographer?

If you don't hire Nikki after looking at her myspace page you are not right.

Metrojam

So thanks to these two guys...Bob and Tom...we have a very fun FREE music event every year in beautiful Washington Park downtown. It is so much fun and I always look forward to it. This year the headliner was the Knack. You know their song My Sharona. They were really good but I really liked the band that played before them...The Redwalls. When they announced the lineup a couple of months ago they also let us know that they were going to be on Leno soon. I stayed up late to watch them and was really impressed. I love their sound it is very different than anything out there. Unfortunately I forgot to get the CD that night but I am hoping my friend Jim at Dr Freuds has it there. Anyhow one of the perks of knowing those two guys above is that I got to sneak in and get my picture taken with the band. They were really sweet guys and they smelled good. I of course made a fool out of myself and said stupid things when I was talking to them but oh well.
After the music we went to The Riverbank. It is a fantastic little martini bar that is smoke free. It is nice to come home smelling like nothing. I had my first mojito. I think I like them. Actually I am thinking of having a mojito party for my birthday. Yum.

FYI>>>>CLOSED TODAY

I am taking the day off today. There is a Ben Franklin in Green Bay going out of business and I am going to go check it out. I called my friend Annette to work for me and she wanted to come along so I am just closing the store. We are also going to the HUGE St Vinnies so I will come back with lots of goodies to share! Have a great day.

It's been over a week!!

I am so sorry I am a blogging slacker. I have been so busy lately I just can't keep up!!
Here's a picture from our friends Kim and Doug's wedding. It was a beautiful and very fun wedding. I totally stood behind Nikki the photographer and stole this shot. Sorry Nikki. Those pictures are going to rock!!! If you need any pictures taken and live in Wisconsin you should hire her. It totally sucks because I am not near my store right now to get her website but I will post a link tomorrow.

Oh check out the bridesmaids jewelry...I made it.

Butterfly Babies and Dairy Fairies

Aren't they adorable? If you like them so much you want to buy them come on in. Butterflies are $4 each and Dairy Fairies are $8 each. If you don't live here and want one let me know and I will list them on etsy!

Sex and the City

I almost forgot to blog about this! There was a fabulous little fundraiser that a couple of wonderful women from our community put together to benefit breast cancer. The evening included a pre-movie premiere party with a fashion show, guest speakers, food and of course a cosmo. The ladies then walked from the party 5 blockish to the movie theatre right across the street with their memory balloons. It was a fun parade of women all looking pretty. They released the balloons and then saw the movie. I was very jealous I wasn't with them! It was a great event and a big round of applause to those great women who put it together!

Time....

Just seems to get away from me lately. Luckily there are pictures to remind us of good times... like this little peanut who decided my creeping phlox looked like a nice place to nest.

I am not feeling entirely creative as of late. I just have too much other stuff going on in my head I think. Yesterday I was going to sit down and make something but when I was on my way to the shop I had a few minutes so I decided to stop at Vinnie's. Oh the deals I found. One of which was a cute little bench with a table attached. I think it was an old telephone stand. Well that little piece of furniture coming into my already packed store made me have to rearrange the entire store. I do that a lot. People laugh at me.

There is so much going on all the time in Mantiowoc and the weekends are full of places to be. This weekend is the big airshow in Manitowoc and balloon glow downtown. Super fun. I love having loud jets flying over all weekend! Really. It is also graduation weekend and then for us to throw just one more thing in some friends of ours are getting married! I just finished the bridesmaids necklaces and just have to get the earrings and the mini brides jewelry done now.

Next weekend is Metrojam...a fun FREE music weekend in the park and also the Garden Fair in the same park. Both very fun events for our community. So if you are in the area Saturday would be a really fun day to come and visit Manitowoc and go to Washington Park and then Persimmons of course.
